Mammoth Lakes & The Eastern Sierra Wedding Photography

Mammoth Lakes is the crown jewel mountain village of the Eastern Sierra. Nestled in Jeffrey pine forest up next to the towering High Sierra, it’s hard to imagine a more picturesque mountain village. Mammoth Mountain dominates the skyline with the jagged Minarets and Ritter Range showing off as well. Can you imagine a more perfect location for your Eastern Sierra wedding or adventure elopement?

As nature lovers and mountain enthusiasts, we have always been drawn to the breathtaking landscapes of the Eastern Sierra. From the soaring peaks and the serene beauty of the area’s lakes and meadows, to the boulder strewn high desert, there is no shortage of stunning backdrops to capture the beauty of your wedding day. Whether you want to take advantage of one of the many fine venues, elope in the boulders of the Buttermilks or Alabama Hills, or hike into the mountains, the Eastern Sierra offers tons of options for your wedding or adventure elopement.

Mammoth Lakes may be the heart of the Eastern Sierra’s high country. But the Owens Valley which is home to Bishop and the Alabama Hills offers an amazing year round alternative. And summertime gives you access to Yosemite National Park’s high country around Tioga Pass and Tuolumne Meadows, an alpine wonderland and granite lover’s paradise with domes, meadows and peaks as far as the eye can see. We think Tuolumne Meadows, which bridges the gap between  Mammoth Lakes & The Eastern Sierra and Yosemite Valley, might just be the perfect location for adventure elopements and intimate weddings.

Staying in Mammoth Lakes is an ideal location for couples looking to spend their wedding day hiking in the mountains or having an adventure. The potential for a truly memorable adventure elopement experience in the backcountry of the High Sierra is endless. Whether we hike miles and hours for your elopement photography, or just scramble a half hour up a dome in Tuolumne, you’ll get to have an experience you’ll remember for the rest of your life. Hiking elopements have become much more popular and common, and for good reason. The Eastern Sierra around Mammoth Lakes, Lone Pine, and Bishop has some of the most incredible hiking in the world.

Some of our favorite Eastern Sierra locations for weddings, adventure elopements, and engagement photo sessions include Convict Lake, June Mountain, Cardinal Village, June Lake, the Alabama Hills, the Bishop Creek High Sierra, Lake Tahoe and Mammoth Mountain. Mammoth Lakes is also the gateway to Yosemite National Park and the access to Tioga Pass & Tuolumne Meadows is incredible. Many who are wanting to elope in the high country of Yosemite National Park may not even realize that it's closer and nicer to stay in Mammoth Lakes as opposed to Yosemite Valley.

tuolumne Meadows

In our opinion, Tuolumne Meadows is the absolutely ideal location for an Adventure Elopement Experience. It's located in Yosemite National Park , yet it makes more sense to stay in Mammoth Lakes instead of Yosemite Valley. It really is the most ideal combination imaginable of Yosemite meets the Eastern Sierra. There are tons of locations to choose from, whether you want to be on top of a granite dome, by the Tuolumne River, on the shores of Tenaya Lake, or on a mountain summit. Tuolumne Meadows and Tioga Pass is by far is our favorite Eastern Sierra location for an intimate wedding or an adventure elopement experience.

Mammoth Lakes

Mammoth Lakes is a classic California mountain town known for its skiing, fishing, climbing, hiking, and other world class adventure activities. Locations such as the Forest Chapel, the Hayden Cabin, Camp High Sierra and more make for great wedding venues. Elopements and Intimate Weddings will have many more options in the surrounding National Forest, such as this Intimate Wedding pictured at Minaret Vista. With so many locations to choose from, let's discuss your vision and find the perfect location for you!

Convict Lake

Convict Lake is a stunning alpine lake just minutes from the town of Mammoth Lakes. The Convict Lake Resort is nearby and has amazing cabins and one of the best restaurants in the Eastern Sierra. Whether an Elopement, Intimate Wedding, or full on Eastern Sierra Wedding, Convict Lake is an ideal location with stunning mountains soaring overhead. Convict Lake Resort is one of my favorite venues near Mammoth Lakes. It has a really nice wedding tent, beautiful grounds, a huge collection of cabins, amazing staff, and some of the best food in the Eastern Sierra. This makes it an ideal all in one location for an Eastern Sierra wedding.

Bishop Creek

Bishop Creek is home to some of the most stunning scenery in the High Sierra. The town of Bishop is perfectly central in the Eastern Sierra and has all the supplies you'll need before heading up into the mountains. There's a plethora of locations near one of the areas gorgeous lakes such as South Lake, North Lake, and Lake Sabrina. Or we can hike into the Sierra backcountry for the breathtaking views that the High Sierra is known for. Cardinal Village Resort offers a quaint mounta in village vibe in the heart of the High Sierra which is great for mountain weddings. Bishop Creek is a dream location for elopements and intimate weddings in the National Forest.

mammoth mountain

Mammoth Mountain offers multiple venues for Eastern Sierra Weddings and is perfectly situated in the town of Mammoth Lakes. Even though Mammoth Mountain is known for its skiing worldwide, it is also a great location for summer and winter weddings. There are multiple lodges and locations to choose from on Mammoth Mountain, and all the restaurants and shopping you could want for a mountain town. Plus it's the gateway to adventure in the Eastern Sierra. We're happy to drive throughout the Eastern Sierra for the adventurous couple wanting to be photographed in multiple locations.

June Lake

The June Lake area is a picturesque mountain village located between Mammoth Lakes and the eastern entrance gate to Yosemite National Park. People having Elopements or Intimate Weddings might love one of the local lakes such as June Lake, Gull Lake, or Silver Lake. Eastern Sierra Weddings are perfect at the Double Eagle Resort which also has delicious food from their restaurant and plenty of nice lodging. June Mountain has a spectacular location a gondola ride up the mountain overlooking the gorgeous Mono basin. The setting makes you feel like you're perched on the side of the world. Other nearby attractions include Tioga Pass, Mono Lake and the historic ghost town of Bodie.

Rock creek

Rock Creek Canyon is a magical meeting of high mountain peaks, stunning alpine lakes, and green boulder strewn meadows. The crown jewel of the area is certainly Little Lakes Valley if you're wanting to get into the backcountry. We can hike for miles to a remote lake, or have a short 15-30 minute walk to a stunning location. People having Elopements and Intimate Weddings will love the wilderness areas in the National Forest, while weddings should look into Rock Creek Resort.

The buttermilks

The Buttermilk Boulders outside of Bishop, California are not only a mecca for rock climbers, they are an amazing location for portraits. Set at the foot of the towering Eastern Sierra, the collection of boulders lies perched on a hill looking out over the entire Owens Valley. There are endless locations for portraits amongst the boulders, and it would be an amazing place for a sunrise adventure elopement before most climbers arrive. This might be one of the most under rated locations for an Adventure Session or elopement in the Eastern Sierra, often being overshadowed by The Alabama Hills.
