Dreaming of an Intimate Winter Wedding in Yosemite?

I’m not sure if when Teresa and Lobsang booked me for their Yosemite intimate wedding that they realized just fortunate we’d be. Anytime you have a winter wedding here in California, there’s more of a chance for rain and snow and inclement weather than any other time of year. But it’s only once a decade or so when the atmospheric rivers line up directly with the Sierra Nevada and bring us record amounts of precipitation.

As the day approached we all started to see storm after storm after storm lining up out in the Pacific. With California in drought, it’s hard to be mad at a series of much-needed storms. But when you’ve planned your wedding months in advance hoping for a beautiful day, it’s hard to not be concerned about an atmospheric river event. These types of storms bring nonstop drenching rains to lower and mid-level elevations. Not a plethora of beautiful snow with a winter wonderland-like vibe.

But sometimes you just have to have faith that everything will work out, and that’s exactly what happened for Teresa and Lobsang. With a series of rain storms lined up set to drench Yosemite, the Sierra, and California at large, there was one day in the middle when it looked like it would clear. And that just so happened to be their wedding day. Even with rock slides causing road closures and traffic for hours with Christmas visitors, we had a spectacular day in between storms for them to get married.
